| The oldest part of the house dates from the 16th century and was an Ironmaster's home, the extensive Dell gardens behind the house being the site of his excavations. The Dell gardens were planted mainly in Victorian times and contain many shrubs including azaleas, camellias and vast, beautiful rhododendrons. They also include a plantation of the giant-leaved Gunnera and a rare collection of Royal Ferns, some of which are 100 years old. Seasonal plantings provide lovely colours through most of the year. | |
The present owners have recently completed a total renovation and refurbishment of the house, and Newick Park is now restored to a level of understated elegance and utter comfort that would have pleased and gratified its original owners. As one of the few estates to be both privately owned and run, guests to the house are guaranteed a level of care that is quite outstanding. Larger groups of guests can enjoy exclusive use of the house and grounds, but whether you visit us for a conferemce, a wedding or simply for a quiet break, we feel sure that, having experienced the unique atmosphere of Newick Park, you will want to return.
Also available to guests on our 250-acre Estate are tennis, fishing in the two lakes and shooting -- both clay pigeon and pheasant (in season). Guests may also play on the prestigious members-only West Course of the East Sussex National Golf Course. |
